The first thing to do if you miss your period, especially if you are not using contraception, is to take a pregnancy test. If the test is negative, then there are a number of factors that may be responsible for the absent period. If this occurs for 3 or more consecutive months, then it is called amenorrhea and you should contact your doctor for more information and diagnosis.

Here are V reasons you may have missed your period.

i.             WEIGHT CHANGES

A rapid change in weight, gain or loss, can lead to hormonal changes which can cause menstrual changes.

ii.            STRESS

Stress can affect reproductive hormones and this can cause menstrual disruptions.

iii.           EXERCISE

Excessive exercise, especially for those with low body weight and/or very little body fat can cause exercise associated amenorrhea or absent menses.

iv.           HORMONE IMBALANCE

There are several hormones aside from estrogen and progesterone that can alter menstruation. Prolactin, thyroid and the hormones that can cause polycystic ovarian syndrome( PCOS) can all affect your menstruation cycle. Consult with your doctor if you think you have a hormone imbalance.

v.         OVARIAN INSUFFICIENCY

Primary ovarian insufficiency, also known as premature ovarian failure, occurs when the ovaries stop functioning normally before the age of 40.
